Above the Rim: Tells the story of an inner city high school basketball star as he struggles to choose a path for his life. He is torn between the easy money and fast lifestyle offered by a drug dealer, and the hopes and future a college scholarship, and hard work might bring. Starring Duane Martin, Leon, Tupac Shakur, David Bailey, Tonya Pinkins, Marlon Wayans, and Bernie Mac. (1994 Sports-Drama)

Big Trouble: Harried coverage sales associate Arkin needs money to send his 3 sons through Yale, so he gets to be engaged with ditsy D’Angelo in a plot to slaughter her loony spouse (Falk). This is pretty stupid stuff, albeit the sardine-flavored liqueur does grant a few giggles. Andrew Bergman wrote the script under the name Warren Bogle. Cast includes Peter Falk, Alan Arkin, Beverly D’Angelo, Charles Durning, Robert Pile, Paul Dooley, Valerie Curtin, and Richard Libertini. (93 minutes, 1985)

Minority Report: A gripping futuristic sci-fi thriller. A new world of crime prevention is being used. It is called the Pre Crime unit. Pre Cogs will see a future crime coming, they will relay this information to the crime unit, who will locate the event before it happens and intercept the criminal before he can commit the crime. When unit Chief John Anderton has his name put forth as a future criminal, it puts him, and the whole pre-crime unit to the test.

Communion: Mental thriller with Walken well cast as author Whitley Strieber, who finds himself visited by odd beings. Does he need a psychiatrist or an exorcist? A tad long in the tooth and the dramatic scenes between Walken and spouse Crouse don’t really work. The movie still has some good moments. Cast includes Christopher Walken, Lindsay Crouse, Frances Sternhagen, Andreas Katsulas, Terri Hanauer, Joel Carlson, and Basil Hoffman. (107 minutes, 1977)

Inside Man: Within A matter of seconds, the Manhattan Trust Bank has been taken over. Everyone inside is held hostage. The robbers have a brilliant plan that the police struggle to deal with. Just how will they escape, and what was really going on in this sophisticated heist?

Te Alambrista: Boyish, ignorant Ambriz illegally crosses the U.S.-Mexican boundary and is capitalized on as he desires work to aid his family. The feeling is crisp and observational; director Youthful’s first flick. Cast includes Domingo Ambriz, Trinidad Silva, Linda Gillin, Ned Beatty, Julius Harris, Paul Berrones, and Edward James Olmos. (110 minutes, 1977)

The Mysterians: Ages after the devastation of their world, the title foreigners land in this world, equip an impregnable dome by a pond, and need females. The planet doesn’t take this well. Vibrant visual effects and quick pace make this one of the more superior Japanese sci thriller. Cast includes Kenji Sahara, Yumi Shirakawa, Momoko Koclti, and Akihiko Hirata. (85 minutes, 1957)
