There is practically no limit to the amount of money that Hollywood will spend to keep us entertained. They recognize that the more they can rope us into the theaters with special effects, head-spinning plots and premium actors, the more they stand a chance to make millions of dollars.

Rich and Strange – Kendall and Barry, an unhappily married couple, are provided cash and voyage around the world; he has an event with a “princess,” when she gets to be passionately close to an explorer. Cast includes Henry Kendall, Joan Barry, Betty Amann, Percy Marmont, and Elsie Randolph. (83 minutes, 1932)
Rally ‘Round the Flag, Boys – Disheartening flick of Max Shulman’s narrative in regards to small city in pandemonium over a new missile base in their region. Cast includes Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, Joan Collins, Jack Carson, Dwayne Hickman, Tuesday Weld, and Gale Gordon. (89 minutes, 1958)
Each Dawn I Die – Journalist Cagney is framed, and sent to the penitentiary where he meets a dangerous inmate, Raft. There is outstanding acting all around. Cagney hits a white-hot peak with his role, however the last half of movie gets to be outrageously implausible. Music score by Max Steiner. Cast includes James Cagney, George Raft, George Bancroft, Jane Bryan, Maxie Rosenbloom, Stanley Ridges, Louis Jean Heydt, Abner Biberman, John Wray, Victor Jory, and Thurston Chamber. (92 minutes, 1939)
No Man of Her Own – Pompous performance based on Cornell Woolrich storyline of Helen Ferguson (Stanwyck) assuming another’s identity and becoming part of a fmaily. Later in the movie she is being blackmailed by her ex-boyfriend. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, John Lund, Jane Cowl, Phyllis Thaxter, and Richard Denning. (98 minutes, 1950)
Big Trouble in Little China – Buddy Blowhard trucker Russell finds himself at large in Chinatown, while a pal’s fiance is abducted right in front of his eyes. High tech Indiana Jones fashion venture has large tongue-in-cheek conduct, however everything else in reference to it is large, too including Russell’s John Wayne strut. Outstanding electric music score. The cast includes Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall, Dennis Dun, James Hong, Champ Wong, and Kate Burton. (99 minutes, 1986)
Down to Earth – Homer Croy’s continuation to “They had to See Paris” has nouveau riche Midwesterner Rogers setting an end to his family’s mindless investing by affirming that he’s broke. Not one of Will Roger’s best film attempts. Cast includes Can Rogers, Irene Opulent, Dorothy Jordan, and Mary Carlisle. (73 minutes, 1932)
Happy Gilmore – Hockey player Happy Gilmore finds his slap shot power translates into 400 yard plus drives in golf. Needing money to help his grandma save her house, he is going to try pro golf. His putting is as terrible as his driving is good, so he has a lot to learn. Overcoming all odds, Happy wins the tour championship and now can save grandma’s home.
