Keyword Density: Achieving the Perfect Balance of Keyword Density

When you know the keywords that will be effective for your web site content, you should realize that there is another obstacle to overcome. This means knowing how to use these keywords to optimize your website content. This means incorporating these keywords in your blogs, website copy or articles so that you will achieve the results that you want.

If you don’t use a keyword enough times, the search engines will not pay attention to them. But if you overdo it, they will most likely avoid you. So, how do you find the right balance?

How Search Engines Utilize Keywords

Once upon a time, when Internet search appeared in the late’90′s, it was standard practice to repeat a keyword or phrase as many times as possible within a webpage. The reasoning behind this is that the search engines at the time would direct traffic to the websites with the highest amount of relevant keyword density.

Today, the search engines are much more intelligent. These search engines, like Google, have developed a different way to evaluate web sites and this means detecting excessive repeated use of keywords. This is called “keyword stuffing.” A website found to practice keyword stuffing is often penalized or worst, left out of the directory of the search engine.

What makes the use of keywords so important?

The only way to get around this system is to use the correct keyword density in your website. This means that you have to be careful in using the keywords and making sure that it is properly incorporated into your copy without looking or sounding awkward.

There is nothing worse than a repeated phrase that sticks out like a sore thumb to every site visitor. They know exactly what you are doing and it distracts them from taking in the information, which is the real purpose for their visit. Everything has to feel natural and make sense, including the keywords, and their usage within the text.

Achieving the perfect keyword density.

So how do you know how many keywords to include in your text so that your web page will still rank high in search engine results?

You can determine the keyword density by using the Google AdWords program and the Google Rankings. These two tools calculate how many times a keyword is repeated. Another way to determine keyword density is to compare the number of words used in an article and how frequently a keyword is used. When you know the right amount of keyword density, you’ll have more visitors. It will also lead into ranking high in search engine results.
