SEO Networker- Learning to Build your Page Rankings
There are a number of different techniques which are referred to under the blanket term search engine optimization (or SEO). All SEO techniques have the same goal – making websites more visible to people through search engines by improving their placement within search engine results.
Google is the search engine which people tend to be the most concerned about, given its dominant position in the search engine market. However, the other major search engines Bing and Yahoo are also important and there are a number of smaller search engines which also influence traffic to your site. The higher your website ranks in the search engines, the better the chance you have of seeing more visitors.
SEO is an ever evolving process, Ferny Ceballos and Raymond Fong from SEONetworker Mastermind Group explain and teach how to stay on top of the SEO game.
It all starts with understanding that there are 3 crucial points to your page design. Each one of them adds to your overall search engine optimization. Well, they aren’t the only things but they are definitely important.
1. Meta Tags – Even if people tell you otherwise, meta tags are still a necessity when optimizing your site. This is just one of the ways you get indexed when the crawlers run through your site. For those who forget to add them, several search engines won’t even take the time to index your site. So you end up being invisible to society. Below are a few tags to consider:
Meta Title- This is the one tag you have to have in order to get indexed. Just take a look at the resource type and you will see it read “document,” just leave it alone.
Meta Description: Not all search engines use these tags, but most do. This description should be brief; one or two sentences will do nicely. This description will appear alongside the name of your page in the search engine’s index.
Meta Keyword- Here you can place as many as 12 keywords. However, make sure they are relevant to your site and its content. You should also separate them by commas.
2. Navigational Links – Your navigational links should be on the right side of your page or at the bottom. Search engines read the text of your site when they index it, reading just like we do: from top left to bottom right. The first 100 words that the search engines come across are considered to be the most important – so make them count. These words should not be the names of your navigational links or worse yet, Javascript code (if you use a Javascript-based navigation bar). By placing your navigational links on the bottom or right hand side of the page means that the first 100 words that the search engines come across will be more useful in terms of SEO, preferably content which contains your most important keywords.
3. Content – Obviously visitors want to see good content on your site. If you provide useful information and continue to do so, they will constantly come back for more. Adding updated information regularly will keep the crawlers coming back to re-index your site as it gets bigger.
Ferny and Raymond have been preaching about this for years, so make sure you provide your site with constant original content. If you utilize duplicated content it will only hurt you down the road. As an SEO Networker you want to create all kinds of traffic (both regular and targeted), and utilize these tips above is a good place to start.
In the end if you take the SEONetworker Mastermind Group strategies to heart, you will be able to better your overall page rankings.
