Does this story sound familiar? Are you over 40 and looking for work? Don’t know what to do next?
Just a few years ago I took the some say crazy decision to leave the corporate world and set up my own business. I’d climbed the ladder through the organisation and was earning over £80,000 a year plus the usual benefits such as car allowance, health insurance and pension. The company had set up a franchised operation and like many people, I’d often wondered about being my own boss and running my own company. This seemed like the perfect chance, a business out of a box so to speak. I was sure I’d never get another chance like this again so I decided to go for it. For three years the business boomed and I have to say that had things of continued as they were set up from the start, I’d still be doing it today. Problem was though, that as a franchisee, the franchisor called too many of the shots and wasn’t long before the revenues started to reduce as a result of commission cuts. It was around this time that the opportunity to sell the business presented itself and so that’s what I did.
This left me with a tidy sum to reinvest but it certainly wasn’t enough to retire on so I got involved in a consultancy organisation but ended up losing a small fortune. I won’t bore you with the details but as a result I found myself back on the job market and was fortunate enough to land myself a management position in a small family run business. Fast forward to 2008 and crunch, the business could no longer afford me and here I was over 40 years old, out of work and wondering what am I going to do next.
If you’re over 40 and unemployed, no matter how skilled you are, finding employment is going to be very tough indeed. Despite legislation, potential employers will think that you’re too old, too expensive and lacking in the drive that perhaps you had 10 years previous.
Like many of you reading this, I looked online in an effort to try and find a new opportunity. One where I could work from home and not have to find large sums of money to invest to get some kind of return. There are a huge number of make money online schemes out there and as I’d dabbled with affiliate marketing in the past I was sure I could sort the wheat from the chaff and find a program that could help me become a successful affiliate marketer. You can have a look here at some of the programs that I considered as someone over 40 unemployed and looking to make money online affiliate marketing.
I signed up with Wealthy Affiliate University after a great deal of research and have found that the resources, tutorials and research tools are everything you need to get started as a budding internet marketer.
